Circles Salon & Study, Basildon
We have converted a former community heating building to create spaces focused on key stage 3 & 4 development. We have a professional standard hair & beauty salon, classrooms, and kitchen.
We focus on engaging pupils that struggle accessing school by providing a safe, calm, and nurturing space and stimulating learners with real life working scenarios.
Encouraging each pupil to succeed and eventually manage their own behaviour by recognising their challenges and teaching alternative ways to respond to difficult situations.
We work in small groups and 1:1 in order to support our young people with their social emotional and mental health alongside their education and transition planning.

We deliver tailored learning after devising an individual learning plan for each learner that enrols on our program.
We are a committed team that will endeavor learners to achieve their full potential to go onto further education, employment and training. We offer employability skills where pupils set up email accounts, complete CV’s, learn to attach CV’s to emails/ apprenticeship websites as well as learn practical skills such as interview techniques for the workplace. We encourage learners to explore their career opportunity’s by liaising with other colleges and army education.
Applications of interests are processed to ensure that learners have post 16 plans. Circles Study have devised a scheme of work which includes the learners voice; entailing taster sessions for wider learning.
We concentrate on the social and emotional aspects of our learners. By doing this, it enables learners to gain qualities to support their academic progress.
Social elements include the close friendships learners make within Circles, the exhibition of appropriate effective communication and behaviour towards others.
Emotional elements include therapeutic interventions, pastoral support, communication with parents and careers, confidence building and allowing learners to build positive rapports where they feel safe, with staff and peers.
We encourage learners to improve their standard of work and attendance levels with incentives such as positive phone calls home.
